Quick action can minimize damage. Follow these steps immediately after realizing you've been scammed.

Realizing you've been scammed is a stressful experience, but staying calm and taking immediate action is crucial. Here is a step-by-step recovery guide.

Step 1: Contact Your Bank Immediately

If you've shared banking details or seen unauthorized transactions, call your bank's emergency number immediately to block your accounts and cards. Most banks have a 24/7 fraud reporting line.

Step 2: Report to Cybercrime Authorities

In India, you should report any financial cyber fraud on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal at cybercrime.gov.in or call the helpline number 1930. This increases the chances of freezing the funds before the scammer can withdraw them.

Step 3: Change All Your Passwords

If you've been targeted, it's possible other accounts are at risk. Change your email, banking, and social media passwords immediately. Enable 2FA if you haven't already.

Step 4: Scan Your Devices

If you clicked a suspicious link or downloaded an app at the scammer's request, your device might be infected with malware. Perform a full factory reset if necessary or use reputable antivirus software to clean your device.
